Meteorology plays a decisive role in natural disasters such as fires, floods, or cold waves with heavy snowfalls that paralyze economic activity. The large number of meteorological variables that can cause disasters greatly complicates forecasting and monitoring risks. To make quick decisions in emergency situations, it is necessary to visualize all data in a very accessible way, something that has not always been possible.

Since 2022, Vexiza has been assisting the Military Emergency Unit with long-term meteorological predictions for their forecasting tasks of catastrophic events, as well as in the management of extreme situations on the ground with short-term or real-time forecasts.

The UME’s operations can now visualize on a single panel the most relevant meteorological variables for each type of emergency. The high interactivity of the tool allows them to analyze through animations the short and medium-term evolution of each phenomenon, thus achieving precise information about the potentially affected areas.

Vexiza’s solution also includes a special module for fire monitoring, which allows the simulation of fire evolution in a few steps based on its origin coordinates and real-time meteorological conditions, thus facilitating evacuation and extinguishing tasks. In addition, the UME has hourly updates of fire risk indices, the reference estimations in the prevention of forest catastrophes, with which they can detect areas at higher risk of imminent fire generation.

The project “FOR.ECA.ST FUSION, Design and Development of a Global Product Pilot for Predicting Fire Behavior in Fires Based on Meteorology-Conditioned Processes” has been co-financed by the ERDF, Thematic Objective 2, which aims to “Improve the use and quality of information and communication technologies, and access to them.”

In FOR.ECA.ST FUSION, the Vexiza team developed a global product pilot for predicting fire behavior in forest fires.
