Fir.eca.st Project
To this end, we have centered our efforts on the integration of data from weather stations and sensors, video camera footage; as well as meteorological models and nowcasting data to track in real-time the conditions that trigger storms.
There are two essential components to the project. Firstly, a GIS viewer allows users to geolocate storm discharge points and track the path of storms, as well as offering precise coordinates and a time-based distribution of the impacts.
Secondly, we equip video cameras with a feature that automatically orients them towards the storm, eliminating the need for user intervention. This simplifies the process of detecting visual indicators of a fire outbreak in the hours or days that follow.
Altogether, the project has succeeded in advancing the understanding of weather patterns and the behavior of storms likely to lead to wildfires, in addition to optimizing early detection efforts, diminishing the environmental and economic impacts associated with wildfires.
Technologies and technical details
node.JS
During the project, the Vexiza team created a web application to geolocate storm discharge points and provides automatic control of a network of video cameras that track the path of storms in search of visual evidence of a wildfire.
